Rainbow Chameleon

It's no secret on this blog that Albie isn't loving picture books of the paperback kind at the moment. I don't know if it's because he can't interact with them as well as board books but it's quite frustrating particularly when all his peers are fine with them!

Rainbow Chameleon is a great book to read with Albie because it's a hardback and it has really interesting interaction. It's not got touch and feely bits or flaps that he can rip off but spinning bits and pulling bits which sees animals appearing and the chameleon changing colour.

It's a lovely story too as the chameleon has lost the love of his life and has to hide from animals as he goes in search of her. It has of course a happy ending and a lovely interactive spinning dial which sees the chameleons change into all the colours of the rainbow.

Eric Carle love

For someone who loved children's books as a child, I'm a bit ashamed to say that I didn't know that there was more to Eric Carle than The Hungry Caterpillar. We went to the library this week and Albie chose "Friends" out of a book box and I'm so glad he did it has for me everything a picture book should have. It has illustrations that get the senses going and it has a really lovely story, a real "aaaah" story.

The story is pretty mental to say the least it goes from a story about friendship into a big journey and then throws itself into a happy ending but the pictures throughout sum up a fantastic journey and makes me want to travel the world so I can see mountains, rainforests, the ocean and deserts.

In addition to "Friends" we got a few board books to read which leaves us with just a few books added to our #300PBs this week. We're not rushing, we're taking a gentle stroll through this challenge as I have a monkey that doesn't want to sit through paperbacks so we go back through our board books each night for Albie's bedtime stories.

Bits and Pieces

At the weekend we went to the children's library in Hamworthy where my parents live and it is so nice I'm suddenly a bit disgruntled with my local children's library. Albie was loving it as he does, I don't know what it is but as soon as he sees shelves of books or even just a pile of books his face lights up! I don't mind at all!

For this week's 300 picture book challenge we have had our heads in lots of Child's Play and Amazing Babies books so my mission next week is to diversify!![gallery type="rectangular" ids="189,195,191,192,193,194,190" orderby="rand"]

My favourite book of the week was a book called "Feelings" I just love board books with baby faces in, Albie loves looking at different emotions it's so great seeing his mind whirring. I've just ordered some books for my shop which has this theme so watch this space.

300 books 1/52

This is my first post of the year for Anne-Marie's challenge. It's to read 300 picture books before the year is up.

Challenge me to read the books and it's an easy task however I'm going to make sure a child, my one year old, is read every page.

Up until a couple of weeks ago, picture books would have been ripped but last week I sat down with Albie and we read Rabbityness.

I'm hoping that by the end of the year we will have more picture books but right now it's a lot of board books (which are allowed, I checked!) as you can see:

This morning's read....My Granny Went to Market

As a child I loved books that exposed me to different cultures. I also loved detailed pictures where I would pretend my finger was a little person walking around the picture.  This book is a really good example of my favourite childhood book.

You can get this book here and go around the world with Granny counting to ten.

Children's Book Week

It’s Children’s Book Week this week (Oct 7th-11th) and this year’s theme is 100 best books for all ages up to 14. Below I have come up with my own favourites for each age group.

Babies

Babies love interacting with other babies and so this book keeps them enthralled with this collection of photographs and poems from many cultures. This unique anthology celebrates the feelings of hope, wonder, surprise, delight and fascination at each new generation of children.

This book is currently being sold half price and with the exclusive discount code below you can get this book for £5.99

Bear has a series of books and in this book he tries out different forms of transport and has an adventure with each one. Rhyme and repetition support the learning layers of travel and transportation, as Bear travels in a raft, a rocket ship, a boat, a bike, a steam train, and a carriage.

9-11

This atlas is fantastic for all ages but probably comes into its own for older children who are confident, highly imaginative readers.  It’s packed with information about the way in which communities and cultures around the world have been shaped by their local environments, and it looks at the ideas and initiatives that are shaping the future.

Barefoot Books doesn’t just make books but crafts and hand puppets too.  Step into the kitchen for some fun with food. The forty recipes in this colourful deck are based around the five main food groups, and offer a healthy and exciting way to learn about cooking.

The 3 of us read...Clare Beaton's Nursery Rhymes

I am in love with the board books by Clare Beaton. They are created beautifully as the book is made up of photos of felt creations.  There are some old favourite nursery rhymes and Albie enjoys a good sing song. For the ones that I haven't heard of, Mummy does a good rap!

You can get this book here and for the full collection of Clare Beaton's books visit this page
